In May 2008, two friends were exploring Mindanao in the Philippines, and saw a defunct Montessori school. Without hesitation, they started the process of forming a tuition-free school right there on the spot. Having founded and run a free school in Northern India since 1995, funding and nursing it for the next 14 years, teaching K-12 to over 300 children annually, the necessary experience was at hand.
In September of 2008, operations started, initially with two teachers and one administrator, teaching english to 65 underprivileged pre-school age children in four sessions each Saturday and Sunday. These children will have better opportunities once accepted to public schools there since proficiency in English eases
access to the fast track, giving them infinitely more opportunities later in life.
As of June 2010, we educate 185 children in six classes, every week day. The staff consists of three
certified teachers, one administrator, and one caretaker. We continue to offer free tuition, as well as
uniforms and books for the children and the staff. |
